Every great bourbon has a story. Ours began in a garage in 2010, when founder Jeff “J” Mattingly introduced Bourbon30 with little more than hats, T-shirts, and a vision of doing something different.
For three years, Jeff traveled, talked, and listened to bourbon lovers, learning what they knew about the industry and, more importantly, what they felt was missing. He discovered that while everyone recognized the big bourbon brands, people were searching for something unique, something personal, and something they couldn’t find on every shelf. That discovery helped shape the future of Bourbon30.
In 2015, Bourbon30 made its debut on store shelves with the slogan “It’s That Time.” But Jeff’s vision went beyond simply putting another bottle of bourbon on the shelf. He wanted to give people the opportunity to experience bourbon in a way that was truly their own.
In 2017, he introduced J. Mattingly 1845, bringing that vision to life through innovative bourbon crafting and the pioneering Blend Your Own Bottle experience. Guests could become part of the creative process, crafting a bourbon that reflected their individual tastes and taking home something uniquely theirs.
Today, J. Mattingly 1845 is a Kentucky distillery built on the same principles that started it all: listening to our guests, thinking differently, and creating bourbon experiences that can’t be found just anywhere.
